Bovec

Location

Bovec is located on border between Slovenia, Italy and Austria. It is situated in the upper Soča valley basin, surounded by several over 2000 m high Julian Alps mountain peaks.It is accessible from 3 directions. By Soča valley from Nova Gorica (Slovenia), by Predel Pass (1156m) from Italy and Vršič Pass (1611m) from Kranjska Gora. Vršič Pass tends to be closed during winter season.

Weather

Bovec weather varies quite a bit. During winter temperatures may drop below 0 C and in the summer it can be hot and temperatures can rise above 30 C in months of July and august. Spring season tends to be rainy. Most stable weather is in august and early autumn. In the mountains it can snow from november until may so plan carefully your hiking trips in Julian Alps.

Tourism

Bovec is european alpine resort where variety of sport activities can be practiced. There are mountains with a lot of creeks surrounding the town and the river flows next to it. This combination is ideal mix for all sort of outdoor activities. The most popular is rafting. But as well is kayaking, hydrospeed, canyoning, hiking, street and mountain biking. Bovec is ideal starting point for hiking in Julian Alps. In the winter you can ski on Kanin mountain slopes where ski area is connected to the Italian side of Sella Nevea. There is international off pist race every year. Haunting and fishing tourism are popular as well. For more adrenaline addicted, paragliding and parachuting is possible. Bovec counts also with tennis and golf playground. There are few children playgrounds as well.

Bovec offers lots of types of accommodation. Majority of guests that visit Soča valley stays at Bovec apartments. There are variety of hotels and pensions in town and its surrounding as well. For summer season one can stay in various camping places. They are very popular among kayak fans as they are situated near Soča River.

Restaurants and bars

There seems to spread new bars and restaurants every year. Majority of restaurants offer international menu. Among Bovec food specialities are Soča trout and potato with salted young cheese. There are bars on every corner. Some stay open until late hours. Latest hot spot is Črna Ovca next to the tenis playground.
